We purchased 17 Titiromoana Road through Craig Mills from Harcourt's/Maitland Realty in 1997. Craig was unfailingly honest in his approach and impressed me as a rarity among real estate agents for that reason. My wife and I had been looking for a house in the Hutt area for nearly two months prior to purchasing this property and I had been lied to, exaggerated to and taken to more totally unsuitable places by other agents than I care to remember.

Craig though outside the square and all of the properties he showed us fitted our stated requirements, although they werent necessarily the right homes for us. Craig did not waste our time, which was very important. When we began planning to sell again, over a year ago, we asked Craig to come back and give us advice about what renovations and redecoration would make the house more marketable. We followed his advice and were not disappointed. Therefore when we decided to sell this year, we engaged Craig to act as our agent.

After some discussion with Craig and between ourselves, we decided to follow the auction process. Our main reason for doing this was because we were working to a deadline and wanted the house sold by a certain date. Auction is one of the chancier approaches to selling house, especially in the soft market conditions which exist in the Wellington region at this time. We know that we might not sell at auction, but decided that the risk was worth it. Harcourt's/Maitland Realty have a much focussed auction process, but like all processes, it must be accompanied by the right skill set to make it work.

Craig set out to do the job very professionally and although we still had some doubts about the wisdom of going to auction, we were confident that we would not have anything but top service from Craig. This proved to be the case. Some interest was quickly generated, although of course that is no guarantee of success. However, we were comfortable that Craigs energy and attention to detail would result in a sale at auction if that were achievable.

As it transpired, we received a prior offer for the house that was sufficiently above our reserve for us to accept it. Even so, we still believe that there was a good chance that the auction l would have been successful if it had been held. While choosing to auction your home is a decision that you have to make based on your personal circumstances, I can thoroughly recommend Craig Mills to carry the process through successfully and to treat both you and any potential buyer with total integrity. Although it was a stressful time for us, having the right person working on our behalf took a good deal of the worry out of the sales process.
